Personal Welfare Manager (North) – Senior Social Worker

About the role

The Personal Welfare Manager (North) will lead the delivery of welfare services for former miners and their dependents across Yorkshire and the North East. Reporting to the Service Manager, the role combines team leadership, case management and regional partnership development, with a mix of office‑based and field work.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the personal welfare team for the Yorkshire and North East region, ensuring high‑quality, outcome‑focused service.
• Oversee casework management, including allocation, assessment and delivery of interventions such as benefits advice, advocacy and practical support.
• Drive service performance, monitor efficiency, and implement improvements when needed.
• Provide supervision, appraisal and case reviews to support team development.
• Act as safeguarding lead for the region, ensuring compliance with policy and appropriate action.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with partner agencies to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary support.

Required profile

• Degree in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or related health and social care qualification with current professional registration (qualified Social Workers preferred).
• Proven experience leading and managing a team in a health and social care setting, including caseload prioritisation and change implementation.
• Experience delivering community‑based social care services to older people and/or individuals with disabilities.
• Strong knowledge of welfare benefits system and relevant legislation affecting vulnerable adults.
• Valid driving licence with access to a vehicle and willingness to travel across a wide geographic area.
