About the role
The Government Legal Department is seeking qualified lawyers (Grade 7) to join its team in Leeds. You will work alongside ministers and departmental officials, providing legal advice, guidance, and managing a caseload across a wide range of public‑sector matters.
Key responsibilities
- Advise ministers and senior officials on legal issues.
- Provide guidance and risk‑based advice to government departments.
- Handle a diverse caseload covering litigation, advisory, commercial, employment and EU legislation.
- Collaborate with other legal professionals across government.
Required profile
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively about legal problems.
- Strong judgement, analytical skills and persuasive communication.
- Open‑minded, impartial and able to work collaboratively at pace.
