Semi Senior Accountant

About the role

This is a hybrid position based in Birmingham for a Semi Senior Accountant within a well‑established public practice. The role offers strong career growth, development opportunities and exposure to a diverse client portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a small portfolio of clients, ensuring high‑quality bookkeeping, management reporting and statutory accounts.
• Prepare management accounts, reports and VAT returns on time.
• Work with client managers to understand requirements and flag areas needing detailed advice.
• Identify additional service opportunities and liaise with subject specialists.
• Support and train junior staff, reviewing their work and providing guidance.
• Prepare billing proposals and assist with commercial aspects of client engagements.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years’ experience in an accountancy practice.
• ICAEW/ACCA qualified or qualified by experience.
• Commitment to maintaining high technical knowledge.
• Strong analytical, research and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero and Iris (or similar) accounting software.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
