SEN Teaching Assistant (KS1 1:1 ASD Support) – Southwark

About the role

This long‑term position supports a Key Stage 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder on a 1:1 basis in a welcoming primary school in Southwark. The role starts in September and offers flexible daily hours, either full‑day (8:30 am‑3:30 pm) or half‑day (8:30 am‑1:30 pm) arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consistent, individual support to help the child access the curriculum and develop communication and social skills.
• Deliver personal care with dignity and sensitivity, as required.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to ensure high‑quality educational and care provision.
• Monitor progress and report observations to inform personalised learning plans.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with ASD, preferably in a primary school setting.
• Confidence in providing personal care safely and respectfully.
• Patient, calm and nurturing approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Genuine passion for helping children with additional needs reach their potential.
