Senior Advocate – Fitness to Practise (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The Legists is seeking a Senior Advocate to provide maternity cover for its Fitness to Practise team in London. This 12‑month fixed‑term position combines leadership of a specialist advocacy team with hands‑on representation in complex regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of in‑house presenting officers and coordinate assignments for external advocates.
• Ensure high‑quality representation during statutory committee hearings.
• Conduct direct advocacy in complex cases, including occasional appearances in the High Court.
• Maintain compliance with professional regulation standards and guidance.

Required profile

• Qualified Barrister with a minimum of five years’ post‑qualification experience.
• Experience in professional regulation or a comparable regulatory environment.
• Proven track record in tribunal advocacy and ability to interpret complex legislation, case law and guidance.
• Strong leadership, coaching and communication abilities; experience with high‑profile cases is advantageous.
