Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js) – London

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast‑growing Series‑A startup in Central London. You will help shape the next generation of cloud‑based, AI‑enabled services by building high‑performance Node.js back‑ends and supporting the migration from Java.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js.
• Assist the transition of existing Java services to a Node.js architecture.
• Create and evolve RESTful APIs that power client applications and data pipelines.
• Optimise PostgreSQL databases, write efficient SQL and improve query performance.
• Debug, profile and stress‑test systems to ensure reliability and speed.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Collaborate closely with API, front‑end, and data‑engineering teams.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience developing backend solutions with Node.js.
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database optimisation.
• Proven ability to design scalable RESTful APIs.
• Excellent debugging and performance‑tuning skills.
• Experience with Git, code reviews and collaborative development.
• Clear and effective communication abilities.
