Senior Commercial Property Lawyer

About the role

Staffordshire County Council is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Property Lawyer to join its busy commercial property team. The role involves handling complex, high‑value property transactions and strategic projects for council departments and external clients, with a focus on delivering innovative legal solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on commercial property transactions, including sales, purchases, leases, development agreements, compulsory purchase, option agreements, overage and lockout agreements.
• Draft and review complex legal agreements and support the preparation of Cabinet and Committee reports.
• Attend and contribute to high‑level meetings with clients and stakeholders.
• Supervise and train junior staff members, ensuring adherence to LEXCEL quality standards.
• Contribute to the marketing and promotion of legal services within Staffordshire Legal Services.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor or Fellow of CILEX with practice rights, or a Barrister.
• Proven experience in commercial property law, either in the public sector or private practice.
• Strong understanding of legislation and case law relating to commercial property.
• Experience representing and advising clients at senior‑level meetings.
• Excellent verbal, written and digital communication skills.
