Senior Compliance Manager – ICAEW Qualified Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Compliance Manager to lead the compliance function of a fast‑growing chartered accountancy firm. Reporting to the Director of Governance, Risk & Compliance, you will ensure the firm meets ICAEW practice assurance, audit and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ICAEW practice assurance and audit compliance, managing monitoring visits and follow‑up actions.
• Develop and maintain the firm’s quality management framework under ISQM 1 and ISQM 2.
• Monitor regulatory developments from HMRC, ICAEW and other bodies and communicate impacts to partners and staff.
• Maintain up‑to‑date compliance manuals, policies, procedures and regulatory correspondence.
• Design and operate the technical audit monitoring programme, including file selection and thematic inspection.
• Evaluate audit monitoring outcomes, identify systemic issues and produce reports.
• Maintain audit technical guidance, methodology, templates and working‑paper standards.
• Act as primary contact for ICAEW Code of Ethics, independence policies and conflict‑checking procedures.
• Oversee HMRC tax adviser registration compliance and monitor auditing standards (ISAs UK, FRC guidance).

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ICAEW) with extensive experience in practice assurance, audit compliance, FRC, QA or risk.
• Proven ability to lead compliance programmes in a professional services environment.
• Strong knowledge of ISQM 1, ISQM 2, ICAEW regulations and HMRC requirements.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, capable of influencing partners and teams.
