Senior Legal Counsel – Construction (Hybrid, £60k-£77k)

About the role

The Legists is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal team in Birmingham. This hybrid role (3 days office, 2 days home) offers the chance to influence high‑value procurement and contract decisions for nationally significant construction programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead legal support on complex, high‑value procurement exercises and contract management matters.
• Provide expert advice on construction contracts, intellectual property, insurance, information governance and operational issues.
• Act as a trusted adviser to senior business stakeholders and project teams.
• Contribute to legal training, knowledge sharing and best‑practice initiatives.
• Manage relationships with external law firms and oversee legal budgets, performance and value for money.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with significant post‑qualification experience (in‑house, private practice, or both).
• Extensive experience advising on high‑value commercial contracts and procurement projects.
• Strong construction and infrastructure contracting expertise, preferably with NEC3 frameworks.
• Proven ability to manage external legal advisers and associated budgets.
• Excellent stakeholder management and the confidence to influence senior leaders.
• Practical, commercially focused approach to legal problem solving.
