Senior Legal Counsel – Construction Law

About the role

Join a leading international construction and engineering business as a Senior Legal Counsel, providing commercial legal advice on high‑value projects across the UK and Europe. You will work closely with the Head of Legal and act as a trusted adviser to project and commercial teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate construction contracts, primarily JCT with exposure to NEC and FIDIC.
• Provide commercially focused legal advice throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
• Support project teams during tender negotiations and live project delivery.
• Advise on contractual risk and prepare practical risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Assist with construction‑related claims and disputes where required.
• Manage warranties, guarantees and wider contractual documentation.
• Liaise with external legal advisers on specialist matters.
• Contribute to legal compliance, policies and internal best practice.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders across commercial, operational and leadership teams.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor with at least 3 years PQE.
• Strong UK construction law experience from a leading law firm or reputable contractor.
• Excellent working knowledge of JCT contracts, with exposure to NEC and/or FIDIC.
• Strong commercial drafting and contract negotiation skills.
• Comfortable working independently and acting as a trusted adviser.
• Previous in‑house experience welcomed but not essential.
• Strong technical ability and genuine interest in construction law.
