Senior Legal Counsel – Payments (London)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Payments Legal team in London. You will advise TikTok, Bytedance and their affiliates on payments compliance across Europe and the UK, helping to shape fast‑moving fintech products.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with product teams on money‑transfer services, e‑money, payment tokens, AML, gifts, stored‑value cards and related regional issues.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including compliance, business development and product—to guide the development and commercialisation of global payment projects.
• Work with the global legal team to advise on launch of new payment features, projects or programmes.
• Provide guidance on payments licensing, regulator interactions and build scalable legal review processes.
• Stay current on EU/UK financial‑service regulations such as AML, money transmission, virtual currency, KYC/KYB and sanctions.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior managers across TikTok’s product and global payment businesses.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of experience in fintech/payments compliance.
• Hands‑on knowledge of AML rules, KYC/KYB, sanctions and financial‑crime regulations.
• Experience with payment product compliance advisory and review.
• Ability to interpret complex regulations and communicate them clearly.
• Exposure to fintech startups or the creator‑economy sector is a plus.
