Senior Project Manager – Capital Projects

About the role

Global University Systems is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of capital projects across its higher‑education estate. You will oversee refurbishments, new builds, fit‑outs and strategic property acquisitions, ensuring safety, compliance and alignment with growth plans.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of capital projects, including refurbishments, new builds and specialist spaces.
• Manage design coordination, commissioning and handover of M&E systems (HVAC, electrical, fire, BMS, data and energy solutions).
• Support property acquisitions through technical due diligence and feasibility assessments.
• Oversee procurement and contract management, including tendering and supplier selection under JCT/NEC frameworks.
• Provide programme reporting, financial tracking and risk management to align with strategic objectives.
• Drive compliance, safety and sustainability best practices and maintain robust project documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering capital projects with significant M&E components.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, building services design and statutory compliance.
• Experience managing commissioning, testing and handover of M&E systems.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and reports.
• Demonstrable procurement and contract management experience.
• Strong financial and programme management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Desirable: experience in higher education or public‑sector estates, professional qualification (CIBSE, IMechE, IET, RICS, CIOB, APM) and knowledge of sustainability frameworks.
