Senior Psychological Therapist

About the role

The Senior Psychological Therapist will deliver specialised psychological assessment and treatment for adult out‑patients referred by GPs and community mental health teams across North and South Lanarkshire. The role also includes consultation, training, and occasional deputising for the service coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Provide autonomous assessment, treatment and discharge for adult patients in the Psychological Therapies service.
• Identify service priorities in line with best practice and clinical guidelines.
• Conduct risk assessments and make safeguarding decisions in accordance with legislation.
• Offer clinical placements and supervision to trainee practitioners, ensuring competency standards are met.
• Deputise for the Coordinator at referral allocation, MDT meetings and team meetings, and manage the service during the Coordinator’s absence.
• Represent the North Psychological Therapies Team at internal and external meetings and contribute to wider NHS Lanarkshire training activities.

Required profile

• HCPC‑registered psychologist (doctorate) or NMC‑registered nurse (honours degree) or Allied Health Professional (honours degree) or accredited member of BABCP, BACP or UKCP, or Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with BPS.
• Post‑qualification training in at least one therapeutic modality such as BFT, CBT for Psychosis, CFT, DBT, CAT or Schema therapy.
• Senior clinical experience with the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
