Senior Scientific Editor, Cell Reports Medicine

About the role

Cell Reports Medicine, a premium open‑access journal from Cell Press, is looking for a Senior Scientific Editor to shape its scientific direction. The role is ideal for a scientist, physician‑scientist, or clinician with a strong interest in translational and clinical research who wants to influence the journal’s content and strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, recruit and develop high‑impact translational and clinical research content.
• Evaluate submitted manuscripts and manage the peer‑review process to ensure rigor, fairness and efficiency.
• Select and collaborate with expert reviewers, providing guidance throughout the review cycle.
• Engage closely with authors, offering constructive feedback and ensuring an excellent author experience.
• Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives and other front‑matter content.
• Contribute to the journal’s editorial strategy and its positioning within the Cell Press portfolio.
• Build and maintain relationships with the global scientific and clinical community.
• Represent the journal at conferences, institutional visits and through digital channels such as the journal homepage and social media.

Required profile

• PhD, MD or equivalent in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline.
• Previous editorial experience (required).
• Broad interest across translational and clinical research, with particular enthusiasm for immunology, metabolism or AI.
• Strong critical‑thinking and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an international team.
• Established research networks are a plus, especially for senior candidates.
• Genuine interest in scientific publishing, communication and emerging digital trends.
