Shift Plant Operator – Walsall Energy Recovery Facility

About the role

We are seeking a Shift Plant Operator to join our new Energy Recovery Facility in Walsall. The role involves operating the plant safely and efficiently on a shift basis, using a Distributed Control System to manage waste‑to‑energy processes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the facility safely and in an environmentally compliant manner on a shift rotation.
• Control waste feeding, overhead cranes, combustion of municipal and commercial waste streams.
• Manage low‑pressure and high‑pressure steam systems, fans, pumps, and the steam turbine generator.
• Handle ash handling, water treatment processes, boiler water chemistry, conveyors, filter systems and valves.
• Promote and monitor health & safety performance, conduct inspections and participate in H&S meetings.
• Develop, implement and maintain operational procedures and risk assessments.
• Report any health, safety or environmental unsafe conditions.

Required profile

• Experience operating industrial plant equipment on a shift basis.
• Understanding of environmental permits and emissions compliance.
• Ability to work with a Distributed Control System (DCS) and follow standard operating procedures.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental best practices.
