About the role
Spiral is building a fast analytical database for multimodal, multi‑rate data streams using the open‑source Vortex file format. The platform serves AI/ML researchers and infrastructure engineers working on complex domains such as weather, finance, genomics, point‑clouds, video and images. As a Software Engineer – Systems you will help eliminate data‑loading bottlenecks and idle GPU time by delivering low‑level, high‑performance storage and processing components.
Required profile
- 5+ years of experience writing high‑quality production code.
- Strong foundation in operating systems and systems programming.
- Proven track record in performance engineering.
- Willingness to work onsite in the London office (or NYC/SF).
Required skills
- Low‑level, high‑performance software development.
- Cloud‑scale storage system design.
- Operating systems and systems programming.
- Performance engineering techniques.
- Familiarity with Apache Arrow, Parquet, DataFusion, ClickHouse, DuckDB.
- Knowledge of ML infrastructure stacks such as PyTorch and CUDA.
- Experience with Rust is a plus.
