About the role
The Specialist Nurse – Organ Donation will act as an ambassador for organ and tissue donation services, supporting patients, families and clinical teams to maximise donation opportunities. You will work across acute and end‑of‑life care settings, ensuring families receive compassionate information and that donation processes are coordinated efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support and clear information to families of critically ill or bereaved patients regarding organ and tissue donation.
- Facilitate and maximise donation opportunities, working autonomously and collaboratively in clinical and non‑clinical environments.
- Develop and maintain robust infrastructure for donation, including analysis, planning, design, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of educational and quality‑assurance programmes.
- Gather and relay all relevant clinical data to transplant centres and tissue establishments, arranging additional tests or investigations as needed.
Required profile
- Registered Nurse (Adult, General, or Children’s) on the NMC register with post‑registration clinical experience in critical care, ICU or emergency settings.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities or willingness to develop leadership skills.
- Experience in clinical audit, data collection and the use of Microsoft Office and iOS for documentation and presentations.
- Experience working in an acute hospital or end‑of‑life care environment.
