Substantive Consultant Gastroenterologist – IBD & Complex Polypectomy

About the role

We are seeking a Substantive Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a well‑established, supportive team in North West England. The position offers a 10‑programme‑approved (PA) substantive contract with a balanced mix of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and general internal medicine duties.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist and general gastroenterology services across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Develop and maintain expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and/or complex polypectomy, with training support where needed.
• Provide diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, including complex polypectomy procedures.
• Contribute to the day‑to‑day management and development of the gastroenterology service.
• Participate in clinical audit, service improvement projects and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Teach and mentor junior doctors, nursing staff and allied health professionals.

Required profile

• Current full GMC registration and eligibility to work in the UK.
• Consultant‑level experience in gastroenterology, with a special interest in IBD and/or complex polypectomy.
• Ability to manage a proportion of inpatient care (approximately 20% of the post).
• Commitment to service development, audit and teaching.
