Tax Investigations Manager – HMRC Specialist

About the role

Join a leading Top 50 accountancy firm as a Tax Investigations Manager, working on high‑profile HMRC matters. You will lead complex tax dispute cases, build trusted client relationships and enjoy autonomy within a growing specialist team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end HMRC enquiries, from initial notification to resolution.
• Advise on COP8, COP9, voluntary disclosures and civil tax investigations.
• Prepare technical submissions, disclosure reports and settlement strategies.
• Lead client communications and act as a trusted adviser throughout investigations.
• Collaborate closely with Partners on sensitive, high‑value cases.
• Support, mentor and develop junior team members.
• Contribute to the growth and reputation of the Tax Investigations practice.

Required profile

• Strong experience managing HMRC enquiries and tax investigations in a professional services environment.
• Detailed understanding of tax dispute resolution, disclosures and HMRC processes.
• Previous HMRC experience combined with practice experience is highly advantageous.
• CTA, ACA, ACCA, ATT or equivalent qualification (or qualified by experience).
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues.
• Proactive, commercially aware and confident in managing client relationships independently.
