Technology Engineer – Roadside Technology Design

About the role

Amey Consulting is seeking a permanent Technology Engineer to join its Power, Lighting and Technology team in Birmingham. The role supports National Highways on operational roadside technology renewal schemes, delivering technically sound engineering solutions within a flexible, hybrid working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Produce engineering designs, calculations, drawings and documentation that meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
• Identify design risks and hazards, communicating them through safety risk management documentation.
• Oversee junior staff performing similar tasks and ensure the quality of their work.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
• Contribute to bid preparation and support business development activities.
• Promote and maintain effective health and safety practices within the team.

Required profile

• Experience in the roadside technology field, typically gained in an Assistant Engineer or equivalent role.
• Knowledge of roadside technology design processes, standards and on‑road operational maintenance.
• Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions in line with client requirements.
• Familiarity with health, safety and welfare regulations such as CDM.
• Proactive, can‑do attitude with a desire to learn from senior colleagues.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD design tools.
