Consultant Rheumatologist

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Consultant Rheumatologist to join the multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Wishaw. The role supports the delivery of high‑quality rheumatology services across three acute hospitals and outpatient clinics.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical care to patients with rheumatic diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Collaborate with specialist nurses, allied health professionals, and primary‑care teams to ensure coordinated patient management.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
• Participate in medical education, supervising trainees and delivering teaching sessions.
• Engage in research and development activities, including audit and scholarly work.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration and eligibility to work in the UK.
• Completed higher specialty training in rheumatology.
• Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, and research.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Advanced clinical assessment and management of rheumatic conditions.
• Interpretation of diagnostic imaging and laboratory results relevant to rheumatology.
• Experience with quality improvement methodologies and patient safety principles.
