Dental Health Support Worker – Children & Families

About the role

The Dental Health Support Worker will join a multi‑disciplinary team delivering oral health improvement for children and families as part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Dental Public Health programmes. Working under the team leader, you will provide home‑based and community interventions that support nutrition and oral health for newborns and young children.

Key responsibilities

• Contact parents and carers of new births allocated to the Child and Family Health Team to discuss oral health needs.
• Provide practical advice and support in the family home and community settings, following Childsmile protocols.
• Deliver intensive home support during the first year of life, aligned with NHS policies such as the Infant Feeding Strategy.
• Facilitate access to oral health promotion, preventive, and treatment services across community and primary‑care dental settings.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and progress against structured care plans.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 3 in Health Care or equivalent experience in a caring environment.
• Ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team and without direct supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational abilities and capacity to manage a busy caseload.
• Full driving licence.
