Dental Health Support Worker – Children & Families

About the role

The Dental Health Support Worker will join a multidisciplinary team delivering oral health improvement for children and families across Glasgow. Working under the team leader, you will provide targeted home‑based and community interventions that support nutrition and oral health as part of NHS Dental Public Health programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Contact parents and carers of newborns assigned to the Child and Family Health Team to discuss oral health needs.
• Deliver practical advice and support in the family home and community settings, following structured care plans.
• Provide intensive home support during the first year of life, adhering to Childsmile protocols and NHS policies such as the Infant Feeding Strategy.
• Facilitate access to oral health promotion, preventive, and treatment services.
• Collaborate with public health nurses, dental professionals, and other agencies to ensure coordinated care.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 3 in Health Care or equivalent experience in a caring environment.
• Ability to work independently within a busy, multidisciplinary team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational abilities and a full driving licence.
