District Nurse – Community Nursing (B7)

About the role

The District Nursing Service in West Dunbartonshire is seeking a Specialist Practitioner to join its permanent team at the Vale Centre for Health and Care. Working three days a week with a rotating weekend, the role provides high‑quality, culturally sensitive nursing care to patients of all ages across the community.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accessible, high‑quality nursing services in partnership with service users, carers and other agencies.
• Act as an autonomous practitioner, using specialist district nursing expertise to support the team.
• Provide skilled nursing interventions and manage a caseload of patients.
• Coordinate workload, delegate tasks and support fellow district nurses.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and care plans in line with NMC standards and data protection legislation.
• Use clinical and environmental risk‑assessment tools, report incidents and contribute to investigations.
• Respond to emergencies such as anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest, delivering basic life support.
• Support patients, relatives and carers to achieve optimal health and independence.
• Establish systems that ensure a continuous 24‑hour nursing service.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a specialist district nursing qualification.
• Proven experience in community/district nursing and autonomous practice.
• Strong knowledge of NMC record‑keeping standards, Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
• Ability to assess and manage clinical and environmental risks.
• Competence in emergency response, including basic life support.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills for multi‑agency work.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Use of clinical risk‑assessment tools.
