District Nurse – School Health (California)

About the role

The District Nurse will provide comprehensive health services to students across schools in the district. This role combines clinical nursing, health education, and collaboration with families and community agencies to promote student well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑depth developmental histories and health assessments for students.
• Perform home and environment evaluations and generate adaptability reports.
• Coordinate with community agencies, medical facilities, school personnel, parents, and social services.
• Deliver health education, preventive care, and emergency response within the school setting.
• Maintain accurate health records and ensure compliance with state and district regulations.

Required profile

• Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• School Audiometrist Certificate.
• Valid School Nurse Services Credential.
• Public Health Nursing Certificate.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with school staff, families, and external agencies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of developmental histories, home assessments, and adaptability reporting.
• Familiarity with community health resources and medical facilities.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
