Dental Health Support Worker – Children & Families

About the role

The Dental Health Support Worker will join a multidisciplinary team delivering oral health improvement for children and families across Glasgow. Working under the guidance of the team leader, you will provide targeted advice and practical support in homes, community settings and primary dental services.

Key responsibilities

• Contact parents and carers of newborns assigned to the Child and Family Health Team to discuss oral health needs.
• Deliver practical oral health and infant nutrition advice in the family home and during community activities.
• Provide intensive home support during the first year of life, following Childsmile protocols and NHS policies.
• Facilitate access to preventive dental services and treatment through the Dental Public Health Programme.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and progress against structured care plans.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 3 in Health Care (or equivalent experience) or working towards this qualification.
• Ability to work independently within a busy, multi‑disciplinary environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational abilities and a full driving licence.

Required skills

• Knowledge of oral health promotion and infant nutrition guidance.
• Familiarity with Childsmile protocols and NHS public health policies.
