HGV Technician

About the role

DPD UK is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to join its fleet maintenance team at the Oldbury hub. You will be responsible for keeping a large fleet of tractors and trailers safe, road‑worthy and operational in a fast‑paced parcel distribution environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine safety inspections in line with DVSA requirements.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults on HGVs.
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brake, suspension, steering, electrical and exhaust systems.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and ensure compliance with road‑safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate service records, defect reports and inspection documentation.
• Use diagnostic equipment and software to identify faults efficiently.
• Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe, and maintain tools and equipment.
• Collaborate with other technicians and management to minimise vehicle downtime.

Required profile

• Proven experience in heavy goods or heavy plant vehicle maintenance.
• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of DVSA road‑worthiness guidelines.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

What we offer

• Permanent contract – 40.25 hours per week (4 on 4 off shift 06:40‑19:00).
• Salary up to £58,000 per year plus tool allowance and a 5 % monthly bonus.
