Trainee Bus Controller

About the role

Arriva London is looking for motivated individuals to join the Route Performance Team as Trainee Bus Controllers. You will be at the heart of London’s bus network, ensuring services run safely, efficiently and on time while gaining valuable experience in public transport operations.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with drivers via radio and face‑to‑face to provide instructions and support.
• Monitor bus movements using advanced GPS tracking and other operational technologies.
• Ensure compliance with Transport for London (TfL) standards and service specifications.
• Work a rotating shift pattern, covering weekdays and weekends as part of a 24/7 operation.
• Assist in incident management and problem‑solving to maintain service reliability.

Required profile

• Excellent verbal communication in clear, fluent English.
• Strong critical‑thinking and logical problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
• High situational awareness and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
• Leadership qualities to influence behaviours and build positive relationships.
