Press Officer

About the role

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is seeking a motivated Press Officer to support Homes England. You will work within the Communications Directorate, delivering both reactive and proactive media engagement across the housing and regeneration sector.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain a trusted network of journalists and external stakeholders.
• Plan and execute proactive media activities, including press releases, briefings and handling plans aligned with organisational priorities.
• Produce high‑quality copy for press releases, comment pieces, speeches, features and media briefings.
• Provide interview scripts and prepare staff for media appearances.
• Monitor the media and political landscape, anticipate issues and recommend solutions.
• Collaborate with internal communications teams to support campaigns, social media and events.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of the media and political environment and news cycle.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, reactive setting and apply sound judgement.
• Experience in developing media materials and handling strategies.
