Purchasing Officer - Procurement

About the role

The Purchasing Officer will support the Procurement Team of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde by ensuring timely and effective processing of all procurement requests. This permanent, full‑time position is based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and works within both medical and non‑medical categories.

Key responsibilities

• Process requisitions for goods and services, advising end users on the correct route to market.
• Negotiate with suppliers and manage purchase‑to‑pay compliance.
• Handle Board‑wide travel requests, including air, rail, and hotel bookings.
• Manage the Warp‑it recycling programme.
• Coordinate with the National Distribution Centre to source short‑ and medium‑term product alternatives during shortages.
• Provide procurement support for products, works and services up to £50,000, including requirement assessment, option generation, supplier identification, competitive quoting and formal procurement exercises.
• Place specialist purchase orders for capital equipment and multi‑function devices, ensuring financial responsibility.

Required profile

• Knowledge of professional purchasing principles and public‑sector procurement regulations.
• Ability to assess requirements, generate options and conduct competitive quotations.
• Experience in negotiating with suppliers and managing procurement processes up to £50,000.
