Senior Pharmacy Support Worker - Pharmacy Services

About the role

The Senior Pharmacy Support Worker will support Primary Care Pharmacotherapy Services within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, ensuring safe and effective use of medicines across GP practices and community settings. Working closely with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, you will handle routine and technical tasks that underpin medication management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with prescription management, medication reviews and updating patient medication records.
• Receive, triage and respond to medication‑related referrals and enquiries.
• Support medicines reconciliation and organise pharmacist‑led clinics and patient appointments.
• Liaise with GP practices, community pharmacies and other healthcare professionals to promote safe, cost‑effective prescribing.
• Provide medicines management support to care homes, handle drug shortages and recalls, and produce prescribing reports.
• Maintain effective communication with patients by telephone regarding their medicines and contribute to service‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with the public and in an administrative capacity; NHS or healthcare experience is desirable.
• Good knowledge of medicines commonly prescribed in primary care and awareness of relevant legislation and best practice.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
