Accounts Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our finance team in Birmingham. You will support the day‑to‑day running of the accounts department while gaining exposure to month‑end processes and management accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices and raise sales invoices.
• Allocate payments and reconcile customer and supplier accounts.
• Complete bank reconciliations.
• Assist with credit control when required.
• Prepare journals, accruals and pre‑payments for month‑end.
• Support balance‑sheet reconciliations and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Help produce management accounts, budget variance analysis and finance reports.
• Contribute to continuous process improvements and ad‑hoc finance projects.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger or similar role.
• Exposure to month‑end processes or a strong desire to develop this knowledge.
• Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Studying towards, or planning to begin, an AAT, ACCA or CIMA qualification (desirable but not essential).
