Accounts Assistant

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join a busy SME where no two days are the same. The role offers a varied mix of purchase and sales ledger work, credit control, reconciliations and general finance duties across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain Purchase and Sales Ledgers, including multi‑currency transactions.
• Manage the AP ledger and keep supplier accounts accurate and up‑to‑date.
• Support Credit Control and monitor outstanding payments.
• Post and reconcile company credit cards and expenses.
• Assist with the company’s invoice factoring facility.
• Post transactions and perform regular reconciliations.
• Investigate discrepancies and resolve issues.
• Use Sage 50 for day‑to‑day finance work and Excel for data analysis (VLOOKUP, SUMIF).

Required profile

• Solid experience in a transactional Accounts Assistant / Finance Assistant role.
• Good knowledge of AP, AR and Credit Control.
• Strong experience with Sage 50.
• Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and SUMIF.
• Experience with reconciliations and expense processing.
• Exposure to multi‑currency transactions and invoice factoring is a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail and a practical, problem‑solving mindset.
• Resilience to work in a fast‑paced SME where priorities change.

Required skills

• Sage 50 accounting software.
• Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIF).
