Associate Director – Indirect Tax (VAT)

About the role

Our client, part of a global network of audit, tax and advisory firms, is seeking an Associate Director for its Indirect Tax team. You will lead the delivery of high‑quality VAT advice, manage client engagements and support junior staff while ensuring compliance with the firm’s risk and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Scope, deliver and bill client work across a diverse portfolio.
• Provide technically accurate advice on VAT and indirect tax matters, referencing legislation, case law and guidance.
• Guide junior staff in research and production of deliverables.
• Produce technical work that requires minimal review and clearly communicates key points.
• Review team members’ work and ensure adherence to risk‑management processes.
• Maintain financial hygiene, including billing, gross margin, utilisation and WIP management.

Required profile

• Solid experience in VAT/indirect tax, either advisory or in‑house.
• Relevant tax qualification such as CTA or ATT.
• Proven ability to manage a large, varied client portfolio.
• Excellent organisational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working within mixed‑discipline teams and building long‑term business relationships.
