Autonomy Integration Engineer

About the role

Shield AI is seeking an Autonomy Integration Engineer to bring autonomy software to unmanned aircraft platforms. The role bridges research and development with field deployment, ensuring reliable autonomous flight in demanding test environments.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate autonomy software onto UAS, coordinating compute, sensors, and control interfaces.
• Own build, configuration, and validation of flight‑ready systems and ensure mission readiness.
• Provide on‑site flight test support, including safety checks, system bring‑up, and troubleshooting under time‑critical constraints.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware/software integration issues in lab and field settings.
• Capture flight data, perform post‑test analysis, and work with autonomy engineers to refine system behavior.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience (or equivalent with advanced degree).
• Willingness to travel 30‑40% of the year to customer sites and test events.

Required skills

• C++ and Python programming.
• Linux‑based development and embedded‑system diagnostics.
• Real‑time operating systems (RTOS) knowledge.
• Sensor integration, sensor fusion, and middleware frameworks such as ROS and DDS.
• Experience with simulation tools and automation for testing and data parsing.
