Backend Engineer (AI)

About the role

nPlan is looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and ship AI‑driven solutions for large‑scale construction projects. You will join the Product Engineering team and work on the core services that power the platform, from simple CRUD APIs to advanced agentic AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy new backend capabilities that enable sophisticated AI functionality for customers.
• Lead technical delivery by proposing designs, evaluating trade‑offs and driving features from concept to production.
• Improve system operability through observability, incident response, performance tuning, scaling and automation.
• Maintain high‑quality code through rigorous code reviews and testing practices.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of experience building scalable production systems.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes in a cloud environment.
• Strong understanding of system design, reliability, testability and security.
• Proactive attitude with a startup mentality and ability to deliver fast.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Python, Go, Typescript.
• API technologies: GraphQL, gRPC, REST.
• Databases: PostgreSQL, BigQuery, vector databases, blob storage.
• Cloud & DevOps: Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions.
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry.
• AI services: Vertex AI, GCP Pub/Sub.
