Data Analyst – Fixed Term (18 months)

About the role

Bristol City Council is seeking a Data Analyst to join its central Data and Insight (D&I) team on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract. You will design, model and deliver business intelligence solutions that inform strategic decisions across council services and support the mayoral and corporate priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Gather and assess data‑related business requirements from council services.
• Design, develop and maintain analytics, dashboards and reporting products using Microsoft technologies and Power BI.
• Support statutory data returns to central Government and other agencies.
• Improve data collection, transformation and reporting methods to drive service improvements.
• Provide performance‑analysis insights and risk‑modelling outputs for operational managers.
• Ensure data products are user‑friendly, intuitive and meet the needs of stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with experience delivering data‑driven insights in a public‑sector or similar environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple service teams and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Commitment to data governance, quality assurance and continuous innovation.

Required skills

• SQL Server (including SSMS, SSIS, SSRS).
• Power BI for data visualisation and reporting.
• Microsoft Azure services.
• Microsoft Office suite.
• Familiarity with other data visualisation tools is a plus.
