Data Centre Shift Technician

About the role

The Data Centre Shift Technician will join the site team at a client’s data centre in Bath, delivering day‑to‑day service support, planned preventative maintenance and reactive tasks. You will work closely with subcontractors and internal staff to ensure the reliability of all M&E services.

Key responsibilities

• Resolve and complete work orders within SLA timeframes, logging activity in the Mainstream SI‑7 CMMS.
• Carry out isolations and reinstatement of electrical, gas, fire alarm and sprinkler systems where authorised.
• Issue permits for access, maintenance, service and project activities.
• Monitor and report on critical services and environmental conditions.
• Provide holiday, training and sickness cover for shift team members.
• Assist in preparing quotations, sourcing supplies and managing third‑party contractor quality.
• Escalate emergencies and out‑of‑line situations following agreed procedures.

Required profile

• Technical training with an apprenticeship or equivalent.
• City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification to BS 7671:2008.
• Ability to become an Authorised Person (AP) within six months of onboarding.
• Experience working in a data centre or similar M&E environment is preferred.

Required skills

• Electrical systems installation and maintenance.
• Gas, fire alarm and sprinkler system knowledge.
• Use of CMMS (Mainstream SI‑7) for work order management.
• Permit‑to‑work procedures.
• Health and safety compliance for contractors and staff.
