Digital Construction Systems Lead

About the role

Akela Construction is seeking a Digital Construction Systems Lead to establish and manage the company’s Common Data Environment (CDE) and automate existing processes. The role will oversee document control, ensure compliance with industry standards, and support the delivery of complex infrastructure projects across Scotland and England.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, develop, manage and maintain project workspaces and electronic filing structures in Autodesk Forma, adhering to security and access policies.
• Develop CDE procedures aligned with ISO 19650 and support the company’s ISO certification journey.
• Lead document control activities for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with client standards and addressing non‑conformances.
• Manage receipt, registration, classification, numbering, versioning and distribution of all project documents.
• Upload, issue, track and manage document workflows, capturing and circulating responses appropriately.
• Conduct quality checks for accuracy and compliance before issuing documentation.
• Maintain up‑to‑date document registers, generate status and action reports, and support audits.
• Liaise with internal teams, external partners and clients to facilitate document flow and resolve issues.
• Review and improve Integrated Management System processes in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 24001.
• Coordinate documentation across pre‑construction, design, construction and hand‑over phases.
• Recruit, develop and train Document Controllers, reinforcing best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing digital construction data and document control within the construction or civil engineering sector.
• Familiarity with ISO 19650, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 24001 standards.
• Ability to lead a team of document controllers and drive process improvements.
