Director of Planning – National Consultancy

About the role

Penguin Recruitment is supporting a leading global multidisciplinary consultancy in the search for a Director of Planning. This senior leadership position will shape the future of sustainable infrastructure and development across the UK, working with high‑performing teams and senior leaders across planning, environment, engineering and design.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the national Planning practice and contribute to long‑term business strategy.
• Lead, inspire and develop multi‑regional teams, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
• Drive business development, securing major infrastructure and development projects across energy, transport, water, housing and net‑zero initiatives.
• Act as Lead Director on flagship client accounts, ensuring high‑quality planning advice, commercial performance and robust risk management.
• Promote integrated delivery by collaborating with environmental, engineering and design disciplines.
• Mentor and develop people, championing a supportive and inclusive culture.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in planning and development consultancy, preferably at a senior or director level.
• Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and deliver complex projects.
• Strong business development track record with experience securing major infrastructure contracts.
• Excellent stakeholder management and client relationship skills.
• Strategic thinker with a passion for sustainable infrastructure and planning reform.
