Electrical CAD Technician – UAV Manufacturer

About the role

Matchtech, a pioneering UK aerospace business developing autonomous fixed‑wing UAV platforms, is looking for an Electrical CAD Technician / Cable Assembly Draftsman on a permanent basis. The role is documentation‑led, creating controlled electrical and harness drawing packs that support reliable, repeatable manufacture across current and next‑generation UAV programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and maintain controlled electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single‑line diagrams and interconnection drawings using SolidWorks Electrical.
• Create detailed cable, loom and wire‑harness assembly drawings, including routing, shielding, strain relief and labelling.
• Maintain accurate connector pinouts, cable schedules, wire‑from‑to lists and Bills of Materials, ensuring correct part numbers and revisions.
• Support prototype builds, investigations and engineering change requests, liaising with engineering, purchasing, quality and manufacturing teams.
• Maintain configuration‑controlled records in document management / PDM systems and ensure drawing packs meet release standards.
• Provide build‑team support by resolving drawing queries and incorporating practical feedback.

Required profile

• Proven experience producing electrical CAD and cable‑harness documentation.
• Competence with SolidWorks Electrical (or comparable electrical CAD tools) and strong grasp of schematics, wiring diagrams and BOM structures.
• Practical understanding of cable‑harness build processes, including crimps, contacts, connectors, shielding and strain relief.
• High attention to detail for pin numbering, wire IDs, part numbers and revision control.
• Comfortable working with engineering drawing standards, document‑release processes and PLM/PDM systems.

Required skills

• SolidWorks Electrical (and optionally SolidWorks 3D / Electrical 3D).
• Advanced Excel for schedule and BOM management.
• Experience with PLM, PDM or ERP controlled document systems.
• Knowledge of IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, AS/EN 9100 and ISO 9001 standards.
• Understanding of continuity/IR testing, EMC, grounding, bonding, shielding and cable segregation.
