Functional Skills English & Maths Tutor

About the role

KBM Training & Recruitment is looking for a passionate Functional Skills English & Maths Tutor to deliver high‑quality lessons to learners in London. The role involves supporting students from Entry Level to Level 2, helping them achieve qualifications and progress to further education, apprenticeships or employment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging Functional Skills English and/or Maths lessons (Entry Level to Level 2).
• Assess learners’ initial abilities and create individual learning plans.
• Monitor progress, provide feedback and prepare learners for examinations.
• Adapt teaching methods to suit diverse abilities and learning styles.
• Maintain accurate records, attendance, progress reports and assessment documentation.
• Provide additional support to overcome learning barriers and promote engagement.
• Ensure compliance with awarding‑organisation and funding requirements.
• Collaborate with quality, safeguarding and learner‑support teams.
• Participate in standardisation meetings, staff training and CPD.

Required profile

• Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and/or Mathematics.
• Teaching qualification (AET, CET, DET, PGCE or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
• Strong communication, organisational and classroom‑management abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience using online learning platforms.
