General Foreman – Construction Site Supervisor

About the role
The General Foreman reports to the Contracts Manager and works closely with the Quantity Surveyor to deliver projects safely, on time and to the required quality. You will lead the on‑site programme, coordinate trades, and ensure that labour, plant, materials and subcontractors are available in line with contract requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and monitor key stage programmes and maintain site security, hutting, hoardings and signboards.
- Take possession of the site, plan and coordinate trade activities, and apply for temporary service connections.
- Interpret drawings and specifications, communicate directions to site personnel, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure method statements and risk assessments are completed for high‑risk activities.
- Request outstanding information from the professional team and confirm verbal instructions.
- Secure necessary approvals (e.g., hoarding licence) and review buildability for commercial or programme advantage.
- Implement environmental controls with the Environmental Co‑ordinator and follow the HSE plan.
- Attend and document site, subcontractor and internal meetings.
Required profile
- Minimum ten years of experience in construction management with a national or regional contractor.
- Strong analytical, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Proactive planning ability and proven track record in civil and FRC projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, adaptable to different audiences.
Required skills
- First Aid at Work certificate.
- IOSH or equivalent health & safety management training.
- Temporary Works & Excavation Safety competence.
- Permitting for live energy works (in conjunction with site & safety management).
- Working at Heights & Scaffolding certification.
- Lifting & Cranage operations knowledge.
- Additional HSEQS training as required by the site HSE plan.
