Generic Housing Officer – Hybrid, £42k, Central London

About the role

We are seeking a Generic Housing Officer to manage a portfolio of approximately 300 residential units across several London boroughs and parts of Kent. The role is permanent, full‑time (35 hours per week) and operates on a hybrid basis, with two days per week in the client’s head office near King’s Cross.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct estate inspections, grade communal areas and follow up on corrective actions.
• Provide day‑to‑day estate and facilities management, ensuring safe and well‑maintained environments.
• Administer service charges, verify value for money and monitor quality of external contractors.
• Manage rent arrears, pursue collections and represent the organisation in court when required.
• Tackle anti‑social behaviour (ASB) and work to reduce its impact on residents and estates.
• Ensure agents comply with contractual obligations and maintain high standards of work.
• Maintain accurate financial records, scrutinise service charges and support budgeting processes.

Required profile

• Previous experience in housing management within a regulated social housing environment, preferably a small housing association.
• Strong knowledge of property management, health and safety, and working with vulnerable tenants.
• Ability to work independently, think creatively and deliver solutions for diverse resident needs.
• Excellent communication skills for liaising with residents, colleagues, external agencies and contractors.

Required skills

• Knowledge of estate inspections and grading.

• Experience handling rent arrears and court procedures.
• Familiarity with anti‑social behaviour mitigation.
