Graduate Human Factors Engineer

About the role

You will join the Submarine Team to work with submariners, operators and engineers, helping to optimise human performance on the Astute and Dreadnought class submarines. The role involves assessing workload, situation awareness and user interaction, planning and conducting trials, and supporting safety cases through human factors analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of cognitive and physical characteristics to ensure operator performance and safety.
• Design, run and analyse user trials, providing data‑driven recommendations for design improvements.
• Collaborate with suppliers, cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to verify that designs meet human‑centred outcomes.
• Evaluate machine and computer interface concepts for intuitiveness, task focus and safety.
• Review environmental and contextual factors that influence human performance.

Required profile

• Recent graduate with a degree relevant to human factors, ergonomics or engineering.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Barrow five days a week.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
