Hairdressing Lecturer – HMP Downview (Full‑Time)

About the role

Join the prison‑based Education Team at HMP Downview to deliver hands‑on hairdressing training that equips female learners with industry‑recognised skills, confidence and qualifications, supporting their successful reintegration after release.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high‑quality, engaging hairdressing lessons that support learners to gain formal qualifications and workplace‑ready skills.
• Guide learners through their individual learning journeys, fostering a positive, supportive, and structured classroom atmosphere.
• Teach practical styling, cutting, and salon techniques while embedding confidence, professional conduct, and employability skills for post‑release goals.

Required profile

• Substantial vocational experience as a qualified hair stylist, hairdresser, or salon practitioner.
• Experience delivering hairdressing training or lecturing is preferred; a recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one) is highly desirable.
• Strong group facilitation, adaptive teaching methods, and excellent communication skills to work effectively with diverse adult learners in custody.
• A creative, inspiring approach with a genuine passion for supporting learners to overcome barriers and achieve success.
