Head of Technical & Facilities

About the role

The Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is seeking a senior leader to head its Technical & Facilities department. Reporting to the Deputy CEO and Director of Commercial & Operations, you will oversee all technical production, building maintenance and sustainability initiatives that support MAC’s artistic programme and commercial activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, allocate and deliver technical resources for exhibitions, performances and commercial hires.
• Maintain high standards of technical operation, production delivery and customer service.
• Manage preventive and reactive maintenance, statutory testing and lifecycle planning for all building systems.
• Oversee cleaning, waste management, security, fire‑safety and emergency procedures across the venue.
• Lead refurbishment, exhibition installations and capital projects in partnership with senior management.
• Drive MAC’s environmental and sustainability agenda, monitor energy consumption and optimise the Building Management System.
• Recruit, train and coach the Technical & Facilities team, fostering a collaborative, customer‑focused culture.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire and public protection legislation.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in technical services or facilities management, preferably within a cultural or public venue.
• Strong knowledge of health & safety, fire safety and statutory compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, projects and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Excellent stakeholder communication skills with artists, programmers and commercial partners.
• Commitment to environmental sustainability and continuous improvement.
