Health Visitor – Children & Families (12‑month maternity cover)

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a qualified Health Visitor to join the Inverclyde Children & Families Health Visiting Team. This 12‑month temporary role provides high‑quality, safe, and evidence‑based health visiting services to families in the community, covering maternity leave.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise a health‑visiting caseload, delivering care using evidence‑based practice.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and make appropriate referrals.
• Work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners, applying GIRFEC and national practice frameworks.
• Safeguard children through early intervention and protection pathways.
• Use critical thinking to manage risks and make decisions in complex situations.
• Provide professional advice prioritising children’s safety and wellbeing.
• Lead discussions and contribute to decision‑making in multi‑agency settings.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and service improvements.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Midwife (degree level) with post‑registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing.
• Registered on Part 3 of the NMC register.
• Educated to Master’s level in a relevant nursing area or equivalent knowledge.
• In‑depth knowledge of health visiting, child protection, and the GIRFEC framework.
• Understanding of legislation on information sharing, data storage, and public protection.
• Experience in caseload management and partnership working with families.
• Ability to use assessment tools and apply strength‑based approaches.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
