HSE Assistant – Health, Safety & Environmental

About the role

We are seeking a motivated HSE Assistant to support the health, safety and environmental objectives of our Liverpool site. Working closely with the HSE Manager, you will help create a safe and compliant workplace while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out workplace inspections, identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Support the review and maintenance of site risk assessments.
• Assist in developing, implementing and improving health and safety procedures.
• Audit operational activities, including permit‑to‑work and lockout/tagout processes.
• Complete and review COSHH assessments to meet regulatory requirements.
• Monitor compliance with standard operating procedures through regular checks.
• Deliver HSE inductions for new employees, contractors and visitors.
• Maintain HSE communication boards and keep information up to date.
• Collect, monitor and analyse safety performance data to identify trends.
• Support investigations and problem‑solving activities aimed at reducing risk.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, documentation and reports.

Required profile

• NEBOSH General Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health & Safety, or actively working towards one.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, production or warehouse environment.
• Good understanding of current health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively at all levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Competitive salary of £30,000 – £36,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
