Junior Costs Negotiator – Complex Injury Claims

About the role

We are seeking a Junior Costs Negotiator to join our Newcastle office and work on defendant large loss injury claims. The role involves drafting and negotiating budgets, preparing Precedent H and R documents, and advising solicitors on cost points to achieve timely settlements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse Precedent H, draft Precedent R and points of dispute for large loss cases.
• Enter negotiations on budgets and cost settlements for RTA/EL/PL matters.
• Manage own caseload using the in‑house case management system, ensuring accurate records, billing and reporting.
• Achieve daily chargeable‑hours targets and delegate tasks where appropriate.
• Liaise with insurers, opposing counsel and clients throughout the file lifecycle.

Required profile

• Previous experience of client liaison and handling an independent caseload.
• Minimum education of 3 GCSEs (C or above) including Maths, English and Science.
• Strong telephone negotiation abilities and the capacity to remain calm under pressure.
• Good initiative, planning and prioritisation skills, with solid decision‑making capability.
